Price reduction rule
Show the lowest price of the last 30 days next to any discount.

A crossed-out price is only lawful if it is the lowest price the store charged in the previous 30 days. Platforms record a compare-at price but not a price history, so the 30-day figure has to be tracked and rendered by an app or by hand.
- Legal basis
- Directive 98/6/EC Art. 6a, inserted by Directive (EU) 2019/2161 (Omnibus) · Germany: Preisangabenverordnung §11
- Who it binds
- Any trader announcing a price reduction to consumers in the EU. The prior price shown must be the lowest price applied in the 30 days before the reduction.
- Who is exempt
- Perishable goods, loyalty-programme benefits and genuine personalised offers can be treated differently under national law. Comparisons with a recommended retail price are not price reductions but must not mislead.
- Penalty
- National. Germany: fines under the PAngV plus Abmahnung by competitors and consumer associations, which is the usual enforcement route. Several national authorities have run sweeps of Black Friday pricing.
